Life Notes
Time Not WastedTime flows through us the way wind moves through a corridor.
Some moments carry a particular scent or glow, lingering briefly before they fade.
Some feelings can’t be captured by a lens; some memories resist being kept as images.
Maybe keeping a written backup of a fleeting feeling is the gentlest, yet most effective, way to resist forgetting.
Notes from 2025
New Home
The night we moved in, we set a small lamp on the floor while boxes were still piled everywhere. We used a cardboard box as a table and ordered takeout. It wasn’t until the next morning that it finally felt like we’d actually moved in.
A Small-Town Trip
We decided on a whim to visit a small seaside town, arriving at dawn and having hot soy milk by the station first. We walked a loop along the breakwater, the sea wind knocking my hat sideways. On the way back, I tucked the train ticket into my wallet.
Coming Home at Night
Walking home at night past the corner I always pass, the shop’s name had changed twice since I last noticed. The rain had just stopped, the pavement gleaming. I stood there a moment before moving on.
Old Bookshop
Ducked into an old bookshop to wait out the rain, the little bell by the door ringing the whole time. Picked out a used essay collection and read a few pages right there. The owner wrapped it in old newspaper.
Candlelit Dinner
A blackout once, so we ate by candlelight. The food was simple, but the room was so quiet you could hear the rain. Afterward I restocked the spare candles.
Framed Photos
While sorting through photo albums, I picked two old photos to share a frame. Set it by the window, where the morning light lands just right. I glance at it every time I pass.
Reunion
A friend I hadn’t seen in years came to visit; we walked together to the river. We talked late into the night and still hadn’t said everything. Before they left, we promised not to let so much time pass again.
Night Runs
Once it turned cool, I started running at night along the same long street. Streetlights passing one by one, footsteps clear in the quiet. I sleep soundly after.
Nothing major happened this year, but it left behind plenty of moments worth remembering.
Notes from 2024
Evening by the River
Sat by the river for a while one evening; someone was playing music in the distance. The wind was light, the water scattered with flecks of light. Stayed until it got dark before heading home.
A Handwritten Letter
Wrote a letter to a friend far away, filling two pages. Only near the end did I realize how much I don’t usually say out loud. Read it over once more before mailing it.
A Short Trip
Spent a weekend in a nearby town and had the local breakfast. Brought back a few postcards and pinned them above my desk. The trip was short, but it was a good one.
Notes from 2023
First Snow
The first snow fell lightly, and the street was quiet. I stood at the window and watched for a long time.
Book Corner
Repainted the old bookshelf and set out the books I read most. Left one shelf empty on purpose. At night I sit there for a while under a small lamp.
Old Friends, Together Again
Friends I hadn’t seen in a long time got together for a meal. Everyone had changed a little, but the laughter still felt familiar. Walked away with a warm feeling.
